General Laura Richardson on security in the Western Hemisphere

On Tuesday, March 19 at 10:00 a.m. ET, the Atlantic Council will host an #ACFrontPage conversation with General Laura J. Richardson, commander of US Southern Command, on the future of the United States’ security partnership with Latin America and the Caribbean.

Security cooperation between the United States and countries across Latin America and the Caribbean is important, not just because of geographical proximity: The Western Hemisphere, as a whole, faces challenges that are transnational in nature, including organized crime, drug trafficking, and irregular migration.

The conversation with Richardson will build on the findings of two recent Atlantic Council Strategy Papers that emphasize the imperative of countering malign forms of Chinese and Russian influence and of redefining US partnership with Latin America and the Caribbean to keep up with today’s challenges.
