Bringing Agility to the Modern Security Operations Center

July 19, 2023 @ 2:00 pm 3:00 pm

Modern security threats are evolving at a faster pace than security technologies, while well-funded threat actors are investing in tools like machine learning (ML), automation, and artificial intelligence (AI). Legacy security operations centers – SOCs – are not equipped with the tools to respond to this rapidly evolving landscape, even as the volume of traffic and data grow exponentially. These challenges also come as many agencies are undertaking ambitious digital transformation projects, while simultaneously migrating to the cloud, expanding telework, and automating many routine security operations tasks.

Many legacy SOCs suffer from the noise generated by false and low-fidelity alerts, lack of automation and orchestration, and an inability to collect, process, and provide context for threat intelligence data, among other issues. This means they aren’t effective in keeping pace with agencies’ digital transformation or cloud initiatives, and not prepared for next-generation advanced attack campaigns. To address this, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency issued a binding operational directive (BOD) requiring agencies to promptly remediate known exploited vulnerabilities that carry significant risk to the federal enterprise.

Join us as thought leaders from government and industry discuss the novel new threats that agency networks face, current challenges faced by SOCs in implementing BOD 22-01 while trying to protect those networks, and the steps that SOCs can take to modernize and raise their success rates.
