The AI Revolution in Government: How It’s Changing the Landscape of Work

July 12, 2023 @ 2:00 pm 3:30 pm

As artificial intelligence (AI) applications proliferate across the internet ecosystem, other changes are being triggered, from the commitment to R&D funding to workforce development to new initiatives in higher education. The federal government’s spending on IT R&D and AI in fiscal year 2023 is estimated at $9.6 billion. Meanwhile, the University of Florida, for instance, declares it is “building an AI university,” aimed at giving all of its students a basic competency in AI regardless of their majors.

The potential impact on the American workforce is immense. A report prepared as a joint study by the U.S. and the European Commission and released by the White House in December 2022 noted that “AI is a fast-evolving technology with great potential to make workers more productive, to make firms more efficient, and to spur innovations in new products and services. At the same time, AI can also be used to automate existing jobs and exacerbate inequality, and it can lead to discrimination against workers.”

Join us as thought leaders from government, academia, and industry discuss the opportunities and challenges faced by government, workforce, and American society as AI continues its advance into mainstream use.

We’ll Discuss:

  • Delineate some of the impacts that AI already shows on academic disciplines and business practices
  • Consider educational requirements for incorporating AI into both governmental functions and learning activities
  • Review examples of successful AI implementations and their benefits
  • Define a framework for establishing metrics for AI implementations
