Exploring investment opportunities in northwest Syria

The Atlantic Council’s Syria Project invites you to a virtual public discussion on May 21, 2024, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (EST), to discuss the post-war economy in northwest Syria and the opportunities and limitations for business investment in the local economy.

The US Department of the Treasury declared ‘General License No. 22’ authorizing activities in certain economic sectors in non-regime-held areas of northeast and northwest Syria. This waiver allows for transactions for certain economic activities in northeast and northwest Syria in sectors like agriculture, information and telecommunications, power grid infrastructure, construction, finance, clean energy, transportation and warehousing, water and waste management, health services, education, manufacturing, and trade.

The discussion will feature a distinguished group of experts and officials who will provide a comprehensive overview of the opportunities and limitations for economic investments in northwest Syria and their potential contribution to the livelihood of millions of Syrians, including Internally Displaced People (IDPs).

This conversation will be broadcast in English on Zoom, X, and Facebook starting at 10:30 a.m. (EST). Please register to attend and join us online. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email with information on how to attend. The event is open to members of the press and will be on the record.
