State & Local Cyber ARMOR Week
November 8, 2023 @ 10:00 am
Ransomware attacks are on the rise, again. States, local governments, rural areas, and territories (SLTT) face growing, significant cybersecurity risks and threats to their information systems. For example, in 2020, 44% of global ransomware attacks targeted municipalities, and the number of municipalities targeted doubled in 2021, with over 60% of state or local governments facing an attack.
State, local, tribal, and territorial (SLTT) governments require new resources and investment to improve their efforts related to:
- Cyber governance and planning
- Assessment and evaluation of systems and their capabilities
- Mitigation of prioritized issues
- Building a robust cyber workforce
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (DHS CISA) is making that investment in SLTT organizations. CISA’s State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program (SLCGP) is a four-year effort to improve the security of critical infrastructure and resilience of the services that SLTT governments provide to their communities. This will be achieved by working to enable stakeholders across the country to understand the severity of their unique local cyber threats and building and implementing plans to address them.
This three-day series of events, hosted by the Center for Internet Security (CIS), MS-ISAC, and the SANS Institute, will focus on how SLTT stakeholders can take action to reduce risks across their enterprises while developing a stronger cyber workforce.
Top 5 Reasons To Attend:
- Applying for CISA’s State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program (SLCGP) can be complex. Hear from your peers and experts on how to streamline the application process and leverage this program to enhance your cybersecurity by implementing plans to address cyber threats.
- Each SLTT organization faces a unique set of challenges and threats. Instead of a one-size-fits-all approach, this event addresses the various complexities you’ll face and highlights best practices to address areas such as cyber governance and planning, system evaluation and assessment, cyber threat mitigation, and building a robust cyber workforce.
- Using our Vulnerability Assessment tools, you will walk away with greater knowledge on where your organization stands on the Vulnerability Management Maturity Model (VMMM) and how to better create a custom-tailored security plan.
- You will have the ability to network with other organizations that share your perspective, concerns, and issues with respect to cybersecurity, from improving the security of critical infrastructure to strengthening the resilience of services your organization provide to your community.
- We’re stronger together (hat tip to RSA’s 2023 theme). When SANS, CIS, and MS-ISAC partner together – you know you will be getting the best minds in the industry to support leveraging CISA’s grant program to reduce cyber risk, mitigate threats, and develop in-demand skills for your cyber teams.
