Mexico’s path forward: A conversation with Diana Alarcón

May 23, 2024 @ 12:00 pm

With less than a month away from the Mexico presidential election, the country is set to make history by electing their first female president. Claudia Sheinbaum of the ruling party, MORENA, currently sits as the leading candidate. Sheinbaum has previously served as the first female mayor of Mexico City and was previously appointed as Mexico City’s environmental minister.

As part of our “Mexico’s Path Forward: Framing the next Sexenio” series, the Atlantic Council’s Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center brought together top advisors from the two-leading presidential candidates ahead of the 2024 Mexico elections.

The virtual conversation with Diana Alarcón, Chief Advisor and International Affairs Coordinator, Dialogos por la Transformacionconsultative group to shape Presidential Candidate Claudia Sheinbaum’s policy agenda, on Thursday, May 23, from 2:30 to 2:50 p.m. ET, highlights Sheinbaum’s view on a more efficient US-Mexico border and increased opportunities of economic investment. The conversation is framed off the recommendations of the Mexico whitepaper titled Commercial Pathways Forward for Mexico: 2024-2030.

What are Sheinbaum’s policy proposals for a more efficient US-Mexico border? How can Mexico unlock more trade and investment? What best practices can ensure a more prosperous Mexican economy for the next administration and for years to come?
