Serving communities with disability in conflict contexts

May 31, 2024 @ 12:00 pm

The Atlantic Council’s Syria Project and the Syrian American Medical Society invite you to a virtual panel discussion on Friday, May 31, 2024, from 09:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. ET to discuss post-conflict accessibility issues for communities with disability in the country.

In 2022, the Syrian American Medical Society completed its first long-term research project on disability and accessibility at its facilities across northwest Syria, which included surveying both its staff and beneficiaries. The discussion will feature a distinguished group of experts who will provide a comprehensive overview of this study and how it can be applied to other conflict settings.

The event will offer an in-depth analysis of the most current barriers to accessibility in Syria and whether or not these findings are consistent with accessibility challenges in other conflict or post-conflict contexts. It will also explore key recommendations on how international actors and disability-focused organizations can effectively address these hurdles.

This conversation will be broadcast on the Atlantic Council Website, YouTube, X, and Facebook starting at 09:30 a.m. ET.

Please register to attend to join us online. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email with information on how to attend. The event is open to members of the press and will be on the record.
